Despite humanitarian assistance, 15.9 million people in Yemen wake up hungry each day. This number is predicted to rise to 20 million people without further attention. The rate of child malnutrition is the highest in the world at the moment. Almost 1/3 of families have gaps in their diet and hardly ever consume any vegetables, fruit, dairy products, or meat. More than a million women and 2 million children require treatment for acute malnutrition. More than half of all families in Yemen are buying food on credit. Salary payments for public sectors have been suspended since September 2016, and this affects nearly 30% of Yemen's workers who depend on government salaries and pensions. WFP, World Food Programme, is providing monthly food assistance through direct food distributions or vouchers. Each family receives a monthly ration of wheat flour, pulses, vegetable oil, sugar, and salt.
